Happy New Year!
This is it. 2012. What does the Adventures in Odyssey Team have in store for us this year?
Before we can begin to discuss the upcoming season (you know, The Labyrinth, Jason Whittaker, Mr. Grote, Eugene and Katrina...etc...) we should look back at the great year we've had. We've experienced a terrific Adventures in Odyssey season with the "Green Ring Conspiracy", and more recently, "Clanging Cymbals".
And so, to celebrate the end of a great season, I thought it might be fun to do something different and put together a ten-minute podcast highlighting the Top Ten Moments of Album 54: "Clanging Cymbals". As some of you might know, we do not normally feature podcasts on TCT; we like to leave that to the talented folks over at the The Ceiling Fan, Odyssey Scoopcast, AIOBlogcast, and the Whit's End Podcast. However, I think it's time to give it a shot, non?*
*UPDATE*: If the player doesn't work (as some folks have told me) click: Top Ten Episodes to play.
What was your favourite moment this past season? Did you disagree with any of our choices? Did we miss any? Let me know in the comment section below.

10. Awesome scene. Send shivers down my spine.
ReplyDelete9. Great lines, indeed. I don't adore this scene, but Camilla does a good job.
8. Don't agree on this one.
7. This one, neither.
6. Good emotional scene. I agree.
5. Don't agree.
4. "...you seem to leave the counter without anyone watching the counter." I like the quote, but it's not deserving of #4.
3. Decent.
2. This is a good scene, but the "falling-from-a-tree-scene" is 10x better.
1. I won't spoil the finale. ;)
I like the podcast! This was a good idea for your first one. I enjoyed it and well done.
My top 5:
5. The emotional scene in "A Penny Earned" (#6 on your list).
4. The climax of "Unbecoming Jay", the scene in the morning that Jay deems a "love fest".
3. The revealing of Juan in Never for Nothing.
2. Mr. Parker and Olivia's talk in Wooton Knows Best.
1. Falling out of the tree in Never for Nothing, and the gorgeously sad music that followed.
I, too, liked the podcast. You have a good voice for it.
ReplyDeleteI thought you were going the other way around in your Top 10 at first (#1-#10), because your #10 pick was my personal favorite of the season. I just heard it again last night and continued to admire it. For the first time in a long time in an Odyssey episode, the Bible did the teaching for itself. Plus, that father-daughter moment was absolutely priceless. Add to it the wonderful new voice for Olivia, and nothing else can top it, imo.
I thought that the moment when Wooton is unsuccessfully trying out his "scary" story on Whit was the most hilarious moment in the entire album. (But, that's just me. Some people think that Jay and Henri are really funny. No offense, but Jay only made me laugh once with the Tale of Two Cities line). Also, I think that Henri's line about Van Gogh should have been in the Top Ten. That made me laugh. While I think Henri is well on his way to equaling Holstein (Who is one of my favorite characters, so that is saying a lot, especially when you consider how critical I am of ablums 51-54), he doesn't have me laughing like Harlow Doyle does. (Harlow should make more frequent appearences). One more thing. 2012: The Deep End. I hope that it brings back the "Darkness Before Dawn"/"Novacom Saga" complicated/spiritual warfare/Good vs. Evil Odyssey storylines that we all know and love. This latest album has given me some (and only some) hope that Odyssey can improve. Will it ever get back to its glory days? I don't know about that... "All the same, it's best to keep your eyes open." Do you know what movie that's from?

I agreed with a lot of your picks for the top 10... except I would have fit Penny + Wooton's lunch conversation in Childish Things as being one of them since I found that the funniest scene in the album...
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree with the scene between Mr. Parker and Olivia, good moment. On my list, I honestly don't know the episodes well enough to choose, but How to Sink a Sub and Unbecoming Jay were pretty memorable (The scene where they play that prank on Katrina by running and screaming whenever she says "class" or Jay's hilarious line: "Well that was AWKWARD," come to mind).
